Looking for the perfect base on the French Riviera?
In this post, I’m sharing our experience staying at Club Colombier in Fréjus with Eurocamp — what the park is really like, what Fréjus town offers, and why this location worked perfectly as a family base for exploring Nice, Cannes, Saint-Tropez and beyond.
Why This Trip Meant More Than Just a Holiday.
Before I get into all the details of the park and the places, I need to set the emotional scene… because this trip didn’t just happen. It meant something.
It was post-Covid…and after that long, frustrating, suffocating stint of no travel, I was thirsty. Thirsty to dive back into one of my favourite things to do on the planet! Luckily for us, the year before we’d had the honour of visiting Zanzibar(a completely different kind of trip, which I wrote about here). An absolute dream of a trip. The kind of trip travel writers and vloggers dream about. The kind that stays in your bones.
But here’s the thing… for me, every place.. every type of trip, offers something different. Every destination feeds a different part of you in the most unique way.
These Eurocamp trips? They speak to me in ways no other place ever has, and to be honest I don’t think any other place will.
Caravanning in Europe, especially on a Eurocamp holiday in the South of France brings honesty. Realness. Simplicity. A pure, stripped-back way of living that pulls you close and brings you right back to basics in the most beautiful way.
You live these trips like a local, amongst locals, and for those days or weeks that you’re there… it stops feeling like a holiday. It becomes a way of life.
And this, my friends, is why I will keep doing these holidays. Until I’m old and grey. Even when my kids are grown and have kids of their own. These trips.. these simple, real, sun-soaked caravan holidays ..will forever sit at the core of my travel story ❤️
Club Colombier – Our Eurocamp Base in Fréjus
If you’ve read my Tuscany Eurocamp series or our Roussillon stay, you’ll know I always start with the base. The holiday park. The vibe. The place we called home for the week.
And Club Colombier in Fréjus? Let me tell you now.. it was a vibe.

BBQ ready.
Sunglasses on.
This is how it starts.
It’s a medium-sized park. Nowhere near as big as La Sirène in Roussillon, but it definitely carried a similar electric, lively energy.. just with a bit more of a luxury feel (if a camping holiday site can even be described that way).
It had everything you’d need to get through your trip smoothly and keep everyone entertained, which is basically the Eurocamp formula we love.
What Facilities Does Club Colombier Offer?

But this was the trip where I stopped drifting.. and started designing the days properly.
There’s a huge water complex with a lazy river and slides, the kind of place the kids would’ve dragged us to daily back in their younger years. Then there’s a spa on site with a quieter pool..perfect for when you need a break from other people’s children screaming down water slides 😂
The park has two restaurants: one more family-style, the other a bit more… let’s call it “Eurocamp luxe,” sitting on the opposite end of the site near the spa.
Both were still family-friendly, but be honest.. if you’re without little ones who love to run around, screech with joy, and live their best lives high on sugary soda… you might gravitate to the more relaxed one just to save your own sanity. We’ve all been there, lol.
Both restaurants served a good mix of dishes: traditional local French bits mixed with simple eats to keep everyone happy. There’s also a takeaway, a supermarket, and a little shop selling fresh pastries in the mornings for those “I’m not cooking yet, don’t speak to me until I’ve had a croissant” starts to the day.
Entertainment-wise, they had loads going on. Evening shows, family activities, all the stuff you need when your kids are younger. But our two were older by then, and after a long day exploring the French Riviera, we honestly just grabbed drinks, headed back to the caravan, and spent our evenings on the veranda with a bottle of wine, a Bluetooth speaker, and our favourite tunes playing while we chilled. That was our kind of holiday.
The Caravan & Practical Details
The caravan itself? Standard — in a good way. No matter where we’ve stayed with Eurocamp, they’re all very similar: clean, functional, and stocked with everything you need.
Let me tell you: the air con saved lives that trip. I’m not exaggerating when I say our asses literally got burnt in the hire car. The day we arrived in the South of France felt like stepping into a furnace.
Thankfully, after the first few days it calmed down… still hot, but bearable-hot. Otherwise we wouldn’t have coped looool.
Like I mentioned in my other Eurocamp blogs, bedding isn’t included. You pay a small extra fee..but honestly, who is lugging duvets on a flight to France? Exactly. Pay the fee. Enjoy your life.
What really made this site special though, was where it sat. Built on a hill in Fréjus, surrounded by 360-degree mountain views, with those insane French Riviera sunrises and sunsets that hit differently in the summer.
Every single evening was giving wowzas, every time. It felt perfect. The kind of place you instantly settle into without even trying.

Some trips feel like an escape.
This one felt like direction.
What Is Fréjus Like as a Base on the French Riviera?
Fréjus itself, on the French Riviera. This cute little coastal town was the perfect base to explore, and honestly, the area is what made this whole trip what it was.
Fréjus is one of those places that doesn’t scream for attention, but the minute you arrive, you get it. It’s coastal, warm, colourful, and honestly just… easy. That’s the best word. Everything about Fréjus was easy. The beaches, the little restaurants, cafés, and markets. It’s easy and romantic all in one. The perfect companion to our entire trip.
We spent more than one morning just wandering those cute streets, sitting at local cafés drinking coffee, buying fresh fruit at the markets… and that bakery. Gosh, I wish I remembered its name.
If you’ve read my Roussillon Eurocamp post, you’ll know that our first time in South France back in 2018 was the year my whole family fell in love with THE almond croissant. That small-ish piece of pastry heaven that hit our souls in a way no other pastry has ever hit us looool.
So obviously, when we arrived in Fréjus, the hunt was ON again for our little piece of bread heaven.
Fast forward back to the bakery.. no idea what it was called, but it was right in the middle of town. When my son spotted the croissants through the window, the smiles, the joy… we knew exactly what time it was.
And this time? There was a new variation: almond croissant with chocolate.
Listen.
We grabbed one each and couldn’t even wait to find a cute spot to sit. That first bite brought me right back to the first time I ever tried one — sweet, soft, melted into my soul… heaven.
Sorry, let me get back on track because I ain’t doing a food blog here lol.
Driving From Fréjus to Nice, Cannes & Saint-Tropez

Now we move.
This was the beauty of doing the French Riviera this way. Unpack once.. explore everything.
Aside from the streets, the romance, and of course the bakery 😂 — the location was ideal.
Fréjus offers roads that connect you to everywhere you’d want to go along the Côte d’Azur. Everything felt simple and relaxed, which is exactly what you need when you’re travelling with family.
It had that typical Mediterranean feel. Shades of terracotta, bougainvillea climbing up walls, bright blue skies that lift your spirit instantly.
It’s busy enough to feel alive, but not chaotic like Nice or Cannes in peak season. Being based there meant we could wake up, grab whatever we needed for the day, jump in the hire car, and be on the road within ten minutes heading somewhere new.
That’s honestly what made Fréjus the perfect anchor point. You’re close to everything without actually being in everything.
Nice.
Cannes.
Saint-Tropez.
Gorge du Verdon.
Éze.
All within driving distance. Proper “right, let’s hit the road and see where the day takes us” energy.
And because it was post-Covid, and the kids were older, it felt like freedom in a way family holidays hadn’t felt for years. We weren’t tied to “how long is the walk?” complaints (well… sometimes 😉😂). They were teens now. They had stamina. They actually wanted to explore. So we made the absolute most of it.
Fréjus gave us the perfect base to do that. Sun, sea, good food, easy roads, safe vibes, and that classic Côte d’Azur charm without the inflated Côte d’Azur price tag.

And somewhere between those sunsets and the miles we covered…
I realised travel works best when its built with intention.
So yep, that was our base. Club Colombier, Fréjus, almond croissants, mountain views and all.
Once we settled in, unpacked, burnt our asses on those hire car seats 😂 and took that first deep breath… it was time to explore properly.
And that’s exactly what I’ll be sharing next. The day trips, the chaos, the beauty, and everything in between along the French Riviera.
